Child and adolescent mental health

In Medway, we want to support children, young people and their families through life, and to work together to help them respond to and overcome challenges that they may face.

Children and young people’s emotional wellbeing can impact on every area of their lives, such as school or college and relationships with friends and family. So when they’re experiencing these difficulties the support needs to be easy to access and responsive to help get them back on their feet as soon as possible.

We’ve spoken to young people and their families and carers in Medway who have told us that the support could be better, so we’ve come up with a number of improvements and want your views.

Medway has a real opportunity to develop a much tighter and integrated continuum of support for children and young people’s emotional health and wellbeing. There is a real sense of commitment across the system from all stakeholders that we can develop a service model that sees resources deployed more effectively across a range of services to provide that support. These opportunities for improvement across the system were also highlighted by Ofsted in their recent inspection of Children’s Services at Medway, particularly in relation to our Looked After Children.

Medway CCG and Medway Council are therefore proposing to recommission mental health services within Medway to both improve outcomes for children and young people, and get better value for money.
